Hello!

A completely unrelated comment to the post, but I wasn't sure if you would check your comments in your old posts. I was looking for a blogger who is currently attending UNSW med and came across you. I really really REALLY want to get into med and hopefully in unsw. Not sure if I'll be good enough though.

Few questions:
1. Did you have to do the UMAT to get in?
2. If so, how did you go and can you give me some last minute tips (its on the 29th of July!)?
3. How much do you like medicine? Did you ever regret choosing it? How much time do you have to spend behind it?

my blog address:
lamzblog.blogspot.com

Thanks heaps!

Hi LamZ! I get an email every time someone leaves a comment, regardless how old the post is, so don't worry! ;) Here are the answers to your questions:

1. I'm an international student so no, I didn't do the UMAT - but I did ISAT (the equivalent of UMAT for internationals).

2. Unfortunately, since my answer to your first question is "no", I won't be able to help you out much here. But if UMAT is anything close to ISAT (shouldn't be too different since ACER came up with both tests), then one tip is "don't linger"! Manage your time well and don't stay put too long on one question that stumps you - move on and come back later! I did pretty alright in ISAT - managed to score above the 90th percentile in all the sections...

3. I love medicine! But I'll admit it - sometimes you do get down during the course for various reasons (e.g. lack of motivation, emotional attachment to patients, compromise on other priorities, etc.) but nothing beats the joy you experience when you see a patient improve or the thrill you get when you assist a procedure or come across a rare case! How much time? Well, this really depends on how well you manage your time - most of my colleagues and I are doing ok time-wise with time to spare for doing other activities including spending time with non-med friends! =)

Feel free to email me at jane_gun@hotmail.com and all the best with your HSC and med application! ^_^

Ps. I'll be posting a copy of this reply in your blog...
