Telstra Digital Mum 2.0

Telstra has recently created Digital Mum 2.0 to assist less-than-tech-savvy parents to learn the do's and don'ts of the cyberworld, which we call the Internet. You don't need to be a mum or even a parent yourself to view the great tips shared by others, post a question you've been dying to ask, or join the weekly challenge to win an LG Xenon touchscreen plus full-QWERTY-keyboard mobile phone (I myself have just won this!)...

Did I just hear you say, "How do I get started?"

Easy! Just click the Nuffnang ad unit (showing the Telstra Digital Mum 2.0 ad) displayed in my blog's sidebar and you'll be transported to the Facebook-hosted website! Have fun! =)

My New Home!

Yes, I have officially moved out of Basser College after residing there for 4 long years. And where have I move to, you ask? I'm now in Randwick; High St to be precise. Want an even more precise location? Imagine the High St main entrance of Prince of Wales Hospital --> I'm right across the road, literally a stone's throw away! :p

Ok, enough of the location. Now, for some shots of the place:

PhotobucketMy new room as viewed from the door

PhotobucketMy comfy bed with a funky bedside table for the fan and lamp (behind the fan)

PhotobucketMy study desk and chair

PhotobucketBags, piggy bank (empty inside though, haha!), and a storage shelf

PhotobucketPart of the kitchen

PhotobucketCosy living room (filled with toys/plushies, board games including Catan, PS2, and lots more!)

PhotobucketThe bathroom

PhotobucketMirror, mirror on the wall

PhotobucketSay hi to my new housemate, Emi!

Ah, I feel so at home right now... Packing and unpacking were such a chore but it's all worth it! Let the photos speak for themselves! ;)

My mob-warring days are over!!

The Mob Wars application on Facebook is seriously addictive but like how I called it quits with (fluff)Friends, the time has come to exercise a little more self control and quit Mob Wars too... There are more important priorities in life worthier of the time originally spent with MW - so goodbye MW!

And the countdown keeps continuing - Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday - that's 3+ more days to go... Can't wait for ICE to be over!

Happy 7-Eleven Day!!

7-Eleven Day is fast approaching!!

Every year, on the seventh day of November (i.e. 7/11), check into any NSW, VIC or QLD 7-Eleven store and yell out "Happy 7-Eleven Day!" to receive your free slurpee! And this year, they're also running a contest where you and your mates can take a photo or shoot a video of posing with the slurpees in 7-Eleven colours i.e. red, green, and orange for your shot at a year's supply of free slurpees - that's a whole lot of brain-freezing action!!

I don't know about you guys but I know that just like any other year, I would want my free slurpee tomorrow!! ^_^

Poetry for Him

My heart shattered
like

pieces of glass

It broke the day I said no
It broke the day I said, “Go!”

Go, get out of my life; I’m doing fine
I don’t need you in this life of mine

Or so I thought
.
.
.
I’m broken.

It was painful

into the pits of darkness

I should have realized you were the light in my life all along.

But you never really left, did you?
I saw your strong hand extending out to me
Gently yet firmly, you pulled me through
Such amazing Love, how can it be?

I turned against you
Yet you were still there for me

I ran away from you
Yet you were still there for me

I was embarrassed being seen with you
Yet you were still there for me

I hurled insults at you
Yet you were still there for me

You were, and are, and will be, always there for me.

O, I must have been blind!

Blind to see that you always forgave my error
Blind to see that you accepted me for who I am
Blind to see that your Love lasts forever
Blind to see that you made my heart whole again

My eyes are now opened.

I will submit to you
For you are always there for me

I will stay close to you
For you are always there for me

I will boast of your presence
For you are always there for me

I will sing you praises
For you are always there for me

Thank you for Loving me.

Likes and Dislikes *edited*

Yeah, I realized I haven't blogged for over a month now... My bad... Been busy with stuff and will still be for quite a while - haven't really the mood to update...

*edited: note deleted*

To those who have previously read it, my sincerest apologies if I have stumbled you in any way. Believe me, it was never done intentionally. Thanks Victor for the helpful comments! ^_^

God bless you all...

Ps. So as not to disappoint, here's another poem, "Dislikes and Likes" this time to replace the old one... =)

I dislike the way I was tempted to sin
I dislike the way I stumbled others at times
I dislike the way I rebelled against You

Yet, thanks to Your amazing grace

I like the way You forgive my sins
I like the way You give me wisdom through Your Word
I like the way You let me call You "Abba Father"

And so, I will continue to strive to be the child You intended me to be

^_^

HELP! Looking for an old sock...

Dear readers,

I'm currently (and frantically!) looking for an old sock for a class assignment (on utilizing networks). I need a sock that is at least 5 years old and evidence to show that it is indeed at least 5 years old. Example of evidence include a sales receipt, a dated card indicating the sock is a gift, a photo dated 5 years or more where the same sock was worn in the photo, a commemorative sock (e.g. the Sydney 2000 Olympics sock with the inscription "Sydney 2000"), etc.

As my assignment is due Tuesday morning, I need the sock by this Monday (18th August). All I need is a photocopied image of the sock, so, you don't have to worry about not having your sock back. You can either email me the photocopied image or you can pass the sock (and evidence!) to me and I'll scan for you.

If you can assist in any way (or know someone who can), please leave a comment on this post. And don't forget to leave your contacts so I can get in touch with you... Any help would be much appreciated!

Thanks! =)

Goodbye my love!

I'm so sorry I have to say goodbye to you. It's true we've been together for almost 5 years now and I cannot deny the feelings that I have for you. I'm usually a very faithful and loyal person but most people will now verbally abuse me for so casually leaving you for your cousin instead.

You see, I did try to do something to salvage our relationship but to no avail. I told everyone how good you were, how they shouldn't just take you at face value. But no, they kept insisting that I should be with your cousin instead. They say you're just a thing of the past and can never compare to your cousin and the comforts he can offer me. They say I'm foolish to still be with you.

And so, after a year of inner emotional struggle, I come to realize that my friends were perhaps right. Maybe your cousin is better after all. So I sincerely apologize to you and ask you to give us your blessings instead.

Don't worry, he can never take your place. After all, you're my "first". You'll always stay in that special corner of my heart...

And now, my dear readers, before you start thinking what a cold heartless b*tch I am, let me introduce you to my "first" and his cousin...

My "first"...

...and his cousin.

Ps. Add me on Facebook! Just click my photo on the Facebook badge in the sidebar "links"...
PPs. This is my 100th post since I started blogging... =)

The most beautiful sunset...

Monday dusk saw the most beautiful sunset I've ever seen in my life... The sky was painted with golden hues of red and pink, interspersed with streaks of indigo and violet... The sight was simply breathtaking!

Taken without "zoom" from the front entrance of Basser - can you see the cityline in the distance?

Same spot again but with a little "zoom" - can you see the Sydney Tower right in the middle among all the other skyscrapers?

Honestly, these two photos do no justice to the true image that evening - in fact, the photos only evoke about 1% of how one would feel if he/she sees the real thing! =P Plus, you'll have to forgive the rather bad quality of the photos. After all, they were taken using a 2MP camera handphone... Imagine how much prettier it would be if it was a proper camera, lol...

It is moments like these when I thank God for the wonderful creation He has made. Simple things like these are all it takes to put a smile on my weary face after a long day of hard toil. My worries leave my mind for the fleeting moment and I just beam with happiness.

Ah, will I ever see another sunset as beautiful as this?

Mixed emotions...

I am confused... Utterly confused... It's just hard to describe the emotions I'm feeling now. I thought I had packed them away and never have to deal with it again, letting the bygones be bygones. There had been moments of brief joy but there were also silent aches, masked by a face that seldom betrays the inner thoughts. But no matter how hard I try...

I just can't forget.

Lord, help me not to get distracted. Let things be according to thy will. If it is part of your plan for me, so be it. But if it's not, help me understand that I can still rely on your promises, and that the matters running in my mind now are insignificant compared to the bigger plans you have for me. For you, Lord, know the struggles I am facing deep down inside, but I'm indeed glad and thankful that I can still find comfort in the generous love you have graciously showered me with...

What does "Shih Ying" or "Jane Gun" mean?

What Shih Ying Means

You are the total package - suave, sexy, smart, and strong.

You have the whole world under your spell, and you can influence almost everyone you know.

You don't always resist your urges to crush the weak. Just remember, they don't have as much going for them as you do.

You are truly an original person. You have amazing ideas, and the power to carry them out.

Success comes rather easily for you... especially in business and academia.

Some people find you to be selfish and a bit overbearing. You're a strong person.

You tend to be pretty tightly wound. It's easy to get you excited... which can be a good or bad thing.

You have a lot of enthusiasm, but it fades rather quickly. You don't stick with any one thing for very long.

You have the drive to accomplish a lot in a short amount of time. Your biggest problem is making sure you finish the projects you start.

You are a free spirit, and you resent anyone who tries to fence you in.

You are unpredictable, adventurous, and always a little surprising.

You may miss out by not settling down, but you're too busy having fun to care.

You are very intuitive and wise. You understand the world better than most people.

You also have a very active imagination. You often get carried away with your thoughts.

You are prone to a little paranoia and jealousy. You sometimes go overboard in interpreting signals.

You are deeply philosophical and thoughtful. You tend to analyze every aspect of your life.

You are intuitive, brilliant, and quite introverted. You value your time alone.

Often times, you are grumpy with other people. You don't appreciate them trying to interfere in your affairs.

Hmm, while most of the above are rather accurate portrayals of my personality (surprisingly!), some aren't quite true - but I'll leave it to you to figure which ones are (or aren't!). If you know me well enough, then it shouldn't pose too much of a problem, hehe... =P

I thought I'll try entering "Jane Gun" instead of "Shih Ying" and below's the result. As you can see, there are some repeating items - maybe these are (or aren't) true? Well, you decide...

What Jane Gun Means

You are fair, honest, and logical. You are a natural leader, and people respect you.

You never give up, and you will succeed... even if it takes you a hundred tries.

You are rational enough to see every part of a problem. You are great at giving other people advice.

You are usually the best at everything ... you strive for perfection.

You are confident, authoritative, and aggressive.

You have the classic "Type A" personality.

You are very intuitive and wise. You understand the world better than most people.

You also have a very active imagination. You often get carried away with your thoughts.

You are prone to a little paranoia and jealousy. You sometimes go overboard in interpreting signals.

You are friendly, charming, and warm. You get along with almost everyone.

You work hard not to rock the boat. Your easy going attitude brings people together.

At times, you can be a little flaky and irresponsible. But for the important things, you pull it together.

You are deeply philosophical and thoughtful. You tend to analyze every aspect of your life.

You are intuitive, brilliant, and quite introverted. You value your time alone.

Often times, you are grumpy with other people. You don't appreciate them trying to interfere in your affairs.

You are a very lucky person. Things just always seem to go your way.

And because you're so lucky, you don't really have a lot of worries. You just hope for the best in life.

You're sometimes a little guilty of being greedy. Spread your luck around a little to people who need it.

Hair Makeover! *Edited*

Edited: Due to a mistake and some comments, I've swapped the 2nd photo with another one which should be better, hehe... And nope, I didn't use any photoshop (unlike what Chia Chean said) - just merely the tool on the website and a photo of myself! =P

Inspired by Shir Li's "hair makeover" at www.hairmixer.com, I decided to give it a try and tinkled with it for a little while. Below are my top 3 picks after trying out less than 10 styles (can't be bothered to waste time trying on every style available). Vote now for your favourite by keying in IDOL1 for pick 1, IDOL2 for pick 2, or IDOL3 for pick 3 and sms to IDOLS or 43657... Lol, that was just a parody of the Idol TV show (American, Australian, Malaysian, whatever!) - not promoting idolatry here, mind you - idolatry's ungodly!!! =( Anyway, just leave a comment either on this post or on the tagboard ya? Who knows? If I've got the mood and money (or if someone sponsors me, hehe), I may just go for the most popular hairdo as voted by you readers! =)

Makeover 1

Makeover 2

Makeover 3

Can't wait to get your responses! =P It's gonna be a long weekend for me with the Queen's birthday on Monday - whee! ^_^

I wonder...

I wonder...

So many questions racing through my mind. Is it true? Or is it not? Easter break's over and classes are resuming again but that's not the issue here... How long more do I have to wait to know? If it really is true? If it is indeed true, I know what I shall do, or rather, say. But if it's not, well, I'll be kept in suspense, won't I? That is, till there comes a time when I know it's not true. Or maybe, I just won't know.

And I continue to wonder...

Tagged by Michelle

Michelle, this one is for you...

The Rules:

  • Link to your tagger and post these rules.
  • List eight (8) random facts about yourself.
  • Tag eight people at the end of your post and list their names (linking to them).
  • Let them know they’ve been tagged by leaving them a comment on their blogs.
1. I wish I'm more eloquent in telling others about the gospel.
Though many friends have often considered me a great public speaker, I find myself often lost at words when trying to share the good news of Christ with friends and family. I've taken up the course "Two Ways To Live" to better equip myself but feel that I can still do better, especially when I wonder when the "right" time to tell is. Please pray with me that God may grant me the courage and opportunity to share the gospel with others that they too may be saved and be adopted into His glorious kingdom.

2. I'm a chocolate addict but don't fancy candies as much.
Unlike most choc addicts who prefer dark choc, I give the thumbs up to milk choc - probably due to its smooth and not-so-bitter flavour. That said, I crave choc fondue and brownies (though they tend to use more dark choc) but am not a big fan of normal simple choc ice-cream. White chocs are ok for me too but they tend to be a little too sweet. This brings me to the next point that candies aren't fancied as much coz they can be a tad too sweet at times and don't bring me the same satisfaction as chocs do (I can have choc every day and not get sick of it). And I would rather have the choc after a meal than before - it's a form of dessert treat which wouldn't taste as great on an empty stomach. What a picky chocoholic I am! =P

3. I'm traumatophobic.
That's right - I'm afraid of injuring myself. Sure, everyone has injured him/herself before but I'm not talking about your typical I-fell-and-scratched-my-knee-today kind of injury. Imagine jumping off the school building because you're locked within (sigh, it's a super long story dating back to my Form 1 days) and ending up with a chest that hurts every time I talk or cough or hiccup. Or what about dislocating your patella (or for the layman, the kneecap) while clubbing on the first day of your uni's orientation week? It felt just like a bottle cap which flew off tangent because it has been unscrewed too quickly with way too much force! And these aren't the only "notable" injuries I've ever had... Sometimes when I'm on the top floor in a shopping mall, I often wonder how shattered my body will end up to be if I should topple over the railing and tumble all the way down - this scary thought is more than enough to keep me off the rails! >.<

4. I had a near-death experience when I was 17.

Don't worry, I wasn't pronounced dead only to wake up seconds later to report to the entire world that I saw a vision of the after-life. What happened was that a few friends and I were heading to our Bible Knowledge teacher's house to prepare for a quiz and we were trying to cross a busy street, which unfortunately did not have a pedestrian bridge nearby. Despite practising the "look left, then right, then left again" that we've been taught countless of times when we were still mere innocent children, a blind spot got the better of us when a motorbike sped right across just as I took a step forward. I'm not lying when I say that the moment felt so surreal, just like one of those scenes you see in a movie but never personally experienced before - I bet my heart skipped a beat. My friends held me back and kept asking me if I was alright. I was sure that a few of my toes had undergone involuntary amputation at the very least, if not the entire limb. But lo and behold, I did not suffer even a single scratch or bruise but only missed the motorbike hitting my entire body straight on by only millimetres - what a miracle!. Praise God for that! =)

5. I suffer from palmar and plantar hyperhydrosis.

By now, you must be thinking: "Jeez, Jane sure has got heaps of problems with her health and overall well-being." Well, I can't blame you if you think so but sometimes, I really can't help it, especially if it's not something I can prevent or have a say in. Such as hyperhydrosis. It's an in-born medical condition where the person affected perspires excessively - in my case, it's my palms and soles (hence, palmar and plantar)... It can be embarrassing at times when the plan to initiate a handshake during an interview to demonstrate confidence backfires when the interviewer asks, "Are you nervous?" Friends sometimes go, "Eww, your hands are so cold and clammy!". And the attempt to explain matters always gets interrupted by "Hyper-what?". Parents used to make me wear socks at home so as not to "wet" the marble floor. Thank goodness Aussieland's cooler climate has reduced the symptoms significantly but sadly, I can't say the same for Malaysia's tropical weather... =(

6. I admire personalities like Helen Keller.
Here is one who is blind, deaf and mute, yet is a teacher to students who can see, listen and speak. And how is this possible? Pure sheer will - the simple determination to go on and not give up. If everyone is as optimistic and determined, this world would have been a better place... Trusting my dad's timeless saying, "Where there's a will, there's a way."

7. I'm a hopeless romantic.
Ok, here comes confession time: I listen to love songs and ponder over each and every line of the lyrics. I often daydream away, planting myself in the shoes of Pride & Prejudice's Elizabeth Bennet and waiting for my dear Darcy to come along and sweep me off my feet. I read Nicholas Sparks' novels and wonder why there aren't more such romantic guys out there in this world. Sigh, the reality of life tells me to give up looking for that Mr Perfect and just settle for the Mr Average Guy but the hopeless romantic in me screams, "No! Be patient and wait - he will come." And the conservative me wishes that should such a Mr Perfect come along, he makes the first move (and makes it clear!) rather than leave me questioning and puzzled with the hints (or not!) he drops. Oh well, we shall just wait and see... As my mum used to sing to me, "Que sera sera, whatever will be will be. The future's not ours to see. Que sera sera, what will be will be."

8. I absolutely love the colour purple.
It's undeniable. Ever since I was placed in Rumah Unggul (the purple sports house in my secondary school) 9 years ago, I've developed a sudden craze for everything purple and the craze hasn't ended as yet (and I don't see it ending anytime soon either). At any one time, I'm bound to have at least one purple item with me, be it my glasses, my watch, my file case, my bag, my water bottle, my fill-in-the-blank... My ultimate favourite shades of purple? Either lavender or metallic purple... ^_^

With these 8 random facts, maybe you'll know me better, maybe not. Either way, I hope it makes an interesting read to you. Here are the 8 bloggers-in-arms whom I'm tagging:

Esther
Pui Fun
Shir Li

Siew Sian
Stefanie
Syamil
Sze Wen
Zhong Zheng

When you guys are done with the tag, do tell me. And to those who are interested but not listed, you're more than welcome to do the tag too and let me know! Happy tagging! =)

Came across the following essay in my friend's blog (check out Syamil's blog!) - his dad forwarded it to him... Can't help laughing at how a primary school kid's imagination can really roam wild - lol, reminds me of the good old days of innocence and naivety when I was younger... Anyway, here's the hilarious "karangan budak sekolah rendah" reproduced with Syamil's permission... Have fun and laughs reading it! I sure did! xD

Pagi itu pagi minggu.

Cuaca cukup sejuk sehingga mencapai takat suhu beku.

Dia menghulurkan tangan ingin bersalam.

Tetapi emak saya masih marah.

Not bad, eh? =P
